There are times that you just want to see the desktop without minimizing all of your windows. Apple has provided similar functionality with their hot corners. You can set a corner of your screen to clear the windows out of your way for a second so you can see your desktop. The following is a list of useful shortcuts you can start using today.
1) Ctrl + A (Windows) or Cmd + A (Mac) = Select all files, words in a document, etc.
2) Ctrl + C (Windows) or Cmd + C (Mac) = Copy selected files, words, etc.
3) Ctrl + X (Windows) or Cmd + X (Mac) = Cut selected files, words, etc.
4) Ctrl + V (Windows) or Cmd + V (Mac) = Paste files, words, etc.
5) Ctrl + F (Windows) or Cmd + F (Mac) = Find or search a document
6) Ctrl + Z (Windows) or Cmd + Z (Mac) = Undo last action
7) Ctrl + Y (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + X (Mac) = Cut selected files, words, etc.
8) Ctrl + P (Windows) or Cmd + P (Mac) = Print current page
9) Alt + Tab (Windows) or Cmd + Tab (Mac) = Switch between open programs
10) Windows + D (Windows) or F11/Cmd + Alt + M (Mac) = show desktop
11) Print Screen (Windows) or Cmd + Shift + 3 = Take a picture of your screen. (It can be pasted into a document using ctrl + V or cmd + V.)
12) Windows + F (Windows) or Cmd + Space (Mac) = Search for files, folders or apps.
These functions have been around for years. Your operating system is more than likely to have the capabilities to do these things so give it a try.
