Having a strong password is your first line of defense against hackers. Hackers are continuously searching for the weakest link possible to give them access to any network or computer. That weak link is often a password.
It's incredibly handy to use the computer for banking, shopping, and keeping track of your personal files; however, if you do so, you need to proceed with caution and create a strong password to protect your important information.
A strong password:
- Does not contain your name or company name.
- Does not contain a common word or phrase like "Password" or "12345".
- Is different from your previous passwords.
- Contains a mix of characters including uppercase letters (ABC), lowercase letters (abc) numbers (123) and symbols (!&@).
Some Tips:
Don't use the same password across multiple sites. Once a hacker has a password for one site, they will be able to access other accounts with the same password.
Remember Me Sometimes sites will give you the option to remember your information for the next time you log in. This can be handy and save time on your personal computer at home. However, don't use the remember me option on a public computer, as the next person who uses that computer will be able access your account.
Create an acronym from something easily remembered. For example you could use an easy to remember nursery rhyme like Hickory Dickory Dock. The mouse ran up the clock. The clock struck one = TmrUPtCThecS1
