Start by taking breaks on a consistent basis. Get up every 20-30 minutes and stretch your body out. If you can, lie down on the floor and stretch for a few minutes. This will relieve the pressure that is pressing down on your lower back throughout the time that you are sitting.
- If you can adjust your chair, try to work with your chair slightly reclined. If you are learning forward or even sitting at a 90 degree angle, you will be putting more stress on your back than if you chose to recline at a slight angle.
- When you get home from work, try to stretch out your hamstrings. If you are sitting every day, you will find that your hamstrings will slowly start to tighten. As your hamstrings tighten, they will start to pull on your pelvis and can create a shaky stabilization for your body.
Keeping your body as active as possible throughout the day may help you drastically minimize your back pain. Don’t be afraid to get up and do a few stretches or even walk around your office a few times. You will be glad that you did!
