One of the most common concerns that people have about their computers comes up when they start running slow. It is a fairly natural occurrence, and it has happened to all of us at some point in time!
There are many different ways that a computer can start to slow down- the important thing is finding out what is causing it, and take steps to correct it. Here are some of the many recommendations we can give those who have slowing computers:
- Always reboot and restart before trying anything else. Some of the issues which come up are temporary bugs which will be knocked out immediately.
- Make sure that there is at least 200- 500 MB of free hard drive space. Clear out anything that you don’t need and free up the space.
- Defrag the hard drive. Defragging the drive is a simple task- just go to the control panel and find the right process.
- If there are background programs which are slowing things down, you can turn them off either temporarily or permanently by accessing the task manager (Control Alt Delete). You can manage a lot of your CPU speed from here.
- Scan for viruses and malware, and if they are found- remove them.
- Update Windows and your browser when you can in order to stay current and ensure that everything will work together.
By doing these steps, you should be able to make it so that your computer is able to perform at its best!
